RipSnore is one of the more popular anti-snoring devices. Honestly I don’t know why. It’s not because of how well it works, that’s for sure. I’ll give you the facts and let you come to your own conclusion, but my mind is made up.
This product is a jaw correcting mouthpiece. By correcting, they mean it moves your jaw forward. This is done to keep the back of your throat open. Sometimes this prevents snoring, but for some people it does not. Not all snoring is caused by the position of the jaw during sleep. If your jaw is the problem, this kind of solution may be an option for you.
Does it Work? Proofs and Complaints
The big claim for this solution is that it works for 98% of people. The way that they present this claim might be considered misleading by some. That 98% success rate came from a survey of their customers. It does not mean that it kept 98% of people from snoring, just that 98% of the small group they surveyed didn’t want to bother returning the product.
There is also some clinical evidence mentioned in the advertisements. The fine print regarding the clinical trial reveals that the success rate was adjusted. How was it adjusted? You really can’t be sure.
Does that mean that 50% of people couldn’t keep the device in; the other 50% saw some kind of positive result and the successful half were the only ones used for the final count? Your guess is as good as mine. Clinical trials like these are not a good measure of how well the product works.
Since the RipSnore is made in Australia, they aren’t bothered by the American FDA. They advertise that the materials used in the product are FDA approved, but that is as far as it goes. The device itself is not FDA approved.
One thing I was sad to see was the number of complaints filed with the BBB. The BBB is keeping tabs on them because of several complaints filed over the past few years. Most of these were about the refund policy and how the company refused to abide by their own money back guarantee. After some more research it was clear that the number of complaints filed with the BBB was nothing when compared to the actual number of issues people were having getting their money back.
Differences
One difference I noticed about RipSnore was the design. It’s not amazing, but I like the fact that the creators added some holes so that you can still breathe through your mouth while using it. Other than that this is a pretty standard jaw retaining mouthpiece. It molds to your mouth once it has been warmed up and only comes in one size.
Experiences
Aside from the mass of problems that pop up as soon as anyone wants a refund, there are two other main issues. The first is that the device does not stay in place for everyone. This is probably because it only comes in one size. The second issue is that a large number of people gag when using it. Normally you can expect a few minor issues with a jaw retainer, but these are out of the ordinary.
I have to recommend that you stay away from this product. Too many people have too many complaints about it. Even if getting a refund wasn’t an issue, I still wouldn’t recommend it. It doesn’t seem to work very well at all in the real world.
If you are looking for a jaw retaining mouthpiece there are several far better options available. Just do me a favor and don’t waste your time with this would be snoring solution.
