I did not use Snore Buster because it is only sold in Australia. Put simply, the Snore Buster is an Australian Made jaw retaining mouthpiece. Please remember that since there are other products on the market with the same name. There wasn’t anything that really jumped out at me with this product.
However, I understand that you may still have some questions about it. As always I will give you best answers possible and try to provide you with all the facts you could ever need.
How It Works
Since this device is a jaw retaining mouthpiece, it moves your jaw forward when you use it. Moving the jaw forward can open the airway and help some people snore less.
Jaw retainers also carry a few risks. For example, if it doesn’t fit you quite right, it could give you jaw pain. This could become chronic if you don’t change something. Another risk is that you could develop an under or overbite. I generally avoid recommending this kind of product, except for a very select few. This is not one of them.
How far to move the jaw forward?
I had to reread the website information several times to get a handle on how this product can be customized to fit.
Once you do figure it out you will see that the whole issue of how far to move the jaw forward is unclear. You are cautioned on the FAQ page that if you push your jaw too far forward during the fitting process, pain in your jaw joint (TMJ) could be the result.
Also it is suggested that in the morning after wearing this device for a full night you may not be able to properly clench your teeth for a while after removing the Snore-Buster from your mouth.
Customization
The Snore-Buster arrives needing to be customized. The thermoplastic material used in its construction becomes softened when the device is placed in boiling water for a measured amount of time.
Once the material softens you pop the device into your mouth, bite down and push your jaw forward while making sure to keep the spatula positioned properly. Also you mustn’t forget to press the warmed plastic against your teeth to get a good fit and; yes, I did say spatula!
The website gives an explanation of how the spatula is supposed to be used but the writing is confusing and one can only hope that the instructions included when the Snore-Buster is mailed, will be easier to understand!
Background
The Snore Buster is made by an Australian company, so BBB and FDA information is not available. This is mainly because non-US businesses don’t have to worry about the American FDA or BBB. This product is only sold in Australia and hence do not need FDA approval.
Snore Buster is recorded Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods as a Class 1 Medical Device under number ARTG# 177872.
Differences
As I mentioned, there wasn’t anything that jumped out at me. This is your typical run of the mill jaw retaining mouthpiece. There just really is not anything special about it. This is the plain Jane of anti-snoring devices. It molds to your mouth like other similar products and that’s the end of the excitement.
Does the Snore Buster work for some people? Yes it does. Does the Snore Buster work for everyone? That is a definite no.
Overall, I can’t say much about this device. It’s certainly not great, that’s something I know for sure. On the other hand, I can’t bash it too much because it does work for some people.
If you find it isn’t working for you, simply package it up and send it back. Just keep an eye on the calendar so you don’t miss the deadline.
If you do manage to get through the fitting process there is a possibility this device will stop your snoring; that is if jaw position was your problem in the first place.
Unfortunately jaw position is only one of the causes of snoring so you may find yourself once again looking for an anti-snoring solution.
