Yoga As A Snoring Solution

Yoga is a great way to stop snoring naturally. If you know anything about yoga then you already know it is not just about stretching. Next to stretching, another very large part of it is controlled breathing. However, the breathing exercises are not the only way yoga can help to reduce snoring.

Ways Yoga Helps

Exercise like this that focuses on your breathing can help a lot. There are other ways it can help too. It is common for beginners to lose weight when starting out. If you are overweight this could be a nice side benefit for you.

How much weight you lose depends on several things. Those include diet, activity level, and the amount of effort you put in. The main reason yoga can help is because of the breathing exercises though, so I’ll get back to that.

Controlled Breathing

When I hear the word yoga, I picture an instructor in some pose that I’m not sure how they got into, and of course they are doing some kind of controlled breathing. Some of the poses make me wonder how people breathe at all, but that’s beside the point.

All of the controlled breathing involved in these exercises will actually strengthen the muscles around your airway. The extra strength will help to keep them open while you sleep. If you decide to take a class with a professional instructor all of the activities you do will have a positive effect on your health in some way.

Cost

The cost of yoga classes can vary. I wouldn’t expect to pay more than twenty dollars per class anywhere though. Most classes should cost around half of that. Other than the cost of the class you will need a few small things that everyone uses there.

Be sure to have a towel and a yoga mat. Some of the facilities that have classes can provide these for you, but there is usually an extra charge for them. There is also the cleanliness issue. Buy your own towel and mat if possible. Although gyms and fitness centers do their best to clean everything, the only way to be completely sure is to have your own accessories.

You could also pick up some DVDs for a few dollars. The main advantage here is that you can get advice and training from someone who may be more knowledgeable than your local instructors. The downside is that there is no one to correct you and you can’t ask any questions.

Specifics

I am not an expert in this area by any means, but I do know a few specific poses and exercises that can help. One of the best is the roaring lion. I won’t describe it here since it can be hard to explain and I don’t want anyone to hurt themselves by trying to do it improperly. Another great exercise is called the hissing breath. I’ll leave it to the experts to explain this one too.

Summary

Yoga is an easy and efficient way to help prevent snoring. You will only get out of it what you put into it though. There are a few options; you don’t have to go to a gym if you are shy.

DVDs are everywhere and some of them are very cheap. With all of the other health benefits that come with this solution I strongly recommend using it along with something made for your specific snoring cause. The results could impress you.
